GEON vs Ahrefs Brand Radar

Brand Radar is grounded in Ahrefs' search-demand data, which is a genuinely defensible way to decide what to measure. The question is whether its refresh cadence and pricing structure fit what you need AI visibility data for.

Short answer: Ahrefs refreshes ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot monthly on a 90-day window, and describes its metrics as modelled directional indicators. Full coverage costs roughly $828–$1,148/mo including a base plan. GEON is $99/mo, on-demand, with Claude coverage Ahrefs doesn't offer.

Refresh cadence is the decisive difference

Ahrefs states in its own methodology post that ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot are refreshed monthly using a 90-day reporting window, for stability and consistency. Google AI Overviews and AI Mode update continuously alongside the keyword database.

That is a deliberate design choice, not an oversight — a 90-day window produces stable, comparable numbers. But it means a change you make today may take weeks to appear for the four major chat assistants. If you're publishing content and want to know whether it moved anything, that loop is too slow. If you want a quarterly directional read on brand presence, it's fine.

What Ahrefs does better

Prompt sourcing is the strongest part of Brand Radar. Rather than inventing prompts, Ahrefs derives them from Google's People Also Ask corpus and its own 110-billion-keyword database, so what gets measured reflects things people actually search. That is a better answer to 'which prompts should we track' than asking a customer to guess, which is what GEON asks you to do.

Ahrefs is also unusually honest about the limits of its own data, stating plainly that metrics are directional indicators rather than exact counts and that its impression weighting is a modelling choice rather than a measured relationship. Vendors rarely write that down.

And Brand Radar tracks YouTube, TikTok and Reddit visibility — currently free in beta — which matters given how often those sources appear in AI answers. Nothing else in this comparison does that.

Where GEON differs

Cost structure is the most immediate difference. Brand Radar's per-plan allowance is thin — the $129 Lite plan includes 5 tracked prompts — and meaningful coverage needs the Brand Radar AI add-on at $199 to $699/mo on top of a base subscription. Teams wanting all platforms land somewhere around $828–$1,148/mo. GEON is $99/mo.

Coverage differs too: Ahrefs has no Claude, and Grok appears in their published index statistics but not in the pricing selector. GEON covers Claude, Grok and DeepSeek in the base plan.

The framing of the numbers differs as well. Ahrefs models visibility from search demand and says so. GEON measures directly — your prompt goes to the platform, the answer comes back, the brand is detected in that answer — and reports how many runs produced the number. Neither approach is universally better; modelled data covers far more ground, measured data tells you what actually happened for the specific prompts you care about.

Frequently asked questions

How often does Ahrefs Brand Radar update?

ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot refresh monthly using a 90-day reporting window, per Ahrefs' own methodology documentation. Google AI Overviews and AI Mode update continuously with their keyword database, and custom prompt checks are listed as daily.

Does Ahrefs Brand Radar track Claude?

No. Its indexes cover Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Copilot and Gemini. Grok appears in their prompt-count statistics but not as a purchasable platform option.

What does Brand Radar actually cost?

Every paid Ahrefs plan includes a small allowance — Lite at $129/mo covers 150 checks and 5 tracked prompts. Broader coverage requires the Brand Radar AI add-on, from $199/mo for selected platforms up to $699/mo for all, on top of the base plan.

Should I use Brand Radar or a dedicated tool?

If you already pay for Ahrefs and want a directional quarterly read alongside your keyword work, the included allowance is a reasonable starting point. If you need same-week feedback, Claude coverage, or more than a handful of tracked prompts, a dedicated tool will cost less and answer faster.
